Mac was one of my foster kittens from 2015. I started fostering him and his two siblings when they were only 2 days old. So tiny! Mac stood out right away from his two litter mates. He was a lot bigger, had a really unusually long tail, and demanded a lot more attention. I am always amazed at what different personalities these little kittens can have even at that young age.
Within a week, Mac showed he was very insecure and I had to separate him from his two siblings. He wanted to "nurse" on everything, including his siblings. Mac needed a little extra TLC and he clearly wanted to be with me all the time. I started using a kitten sling to keep him with me as much as I could during the day. He was content to lay in the sling for as long as I would allow him, even hours at a time, so we both were happy with the arrangement. It is amazing what tasks I was able to do with a little kitten keeping me company.
This cute photo was taken when Mac was about 5 weeks old, and in his sling. The animal shelter had won a prestigious nonprofit award, and I was lucky enough to get to tag along to the award ceremony. It was too warm to leave the 3 kittens in my car, so I checked the other two kittens and their crate at the coat check. The staff there were delighted to have them, as you can imagine. I brought Mac along with me in his sling. No one seemed to mind the arrangement, and Mac pretty much got all the attention just by being cute. He was a very popular little guy, and even got to go along on stage to accept the award. It was an adorable moment that everyone enjoyed.
Mac's story definitely had a happy ending, my husband and I fell in love with Mac, and we adopted him when he was old enough. Mac has been a happy part of our family. I am looking forward to sharing more stories about Mac as I gather them and add them to my new website.
