Sarge goes to his new home!

5/15/2018

Yes, the time has come to take Sarge in to the animal shelter I volunteer for, and then he will go to his new home.  He already has an adopter and they got to meet each other!  Sometimes it works that way, and I am always so pleased to meet the adopter and know he is going to a loving home.
A tradition I like to do is a final photo with my foster kittens.  My husband helps me out, knowing how much this means to me. Sarge is not normally allowed outside, but we took a short little walk to the yard for a quick photo in front of my favorite roses.
Sarge will have his neuter surgery tomorrow along with the remainder of his kitten shots, and then  the next day off to his new home.  Sarge is a real character and I am sure he will have a great life and entertain everyone with his cute antics.
My thanks to the animal shelter I volunteer for.  They provide the food, medicine, vet care, and all the support he needs.  As a volunteer, I just gladly give my time and love.  I will be sad until I see my next baby kitten to foster...which will be soon!

Sarge wants to grow up to be a Quilter

Doesn't Sarge look cute perched on my husbands shoulder?  Yes, my husband sews and quilts.  He makes his own Hawaiian shirts, and then he started making beautiful quilts when he retired.
Sarge is not one to miss out on any excitement, so hanging out this way is not much of a surprise.  Still cute, and gives a little glimpse of living with a cute little foster kitten.  When I foster a "singleton" we get to be mom, sister, brother and all family members.  They can be more demanding of my time, but well worth it and actually lots of fun.

Sarge - Fun times with a box & a friend

4/30/2018

I have found that a used box is about the best toy you can offer a foster kitten.  Sarge likes to just lay in the box, jump all over it swatting at things, and if I add a little kitten ball toy, it can keep him busy for a long time.
Here Sarge is scoping out a "new" box that was shipped to him special (ha-ha) and my tiny 5 pound dog, Button, is checking out what all the fuss is about. These two have been best buddies since the beginning.  Button like to lick messy milk off faces, wrestle, and have a good time with Sarge.  All done gently, like the cute little dog that Button is.  As Sarge has grown, it has turned the tables, and Button has to be much more careful to not get beat up by the kitten!

Sarge playing in his box...what fun!

I could watch this video all day.  In fact, I watched him in the box playing for a long time, and then decided I had to take a video of the fun.  He is a little tuckered out here from all the playing, but it is still adorable and fun to watch.  Enjoy!

Sarge - What a handsome guy!

Sarge, looking his best today and held still long enough for a gorgeous photo!  Actually Sarge is very social and loves to sit in my lap and hang out with me.  Believe me, I am happy with that and make sure to have time to be his lap.  He still has his blue eyes, and I am wondering if they will change color or stay blue.  Kittens change to their permanent color about now.... time will tell.

Sarge and his "invisable friend"

Sarge is a "singleton" which means he is the only kitten in his litter. Kittens learn a lot from each other, so it takes more socialization to foster a single kitten like him.  I happen to really enjoy it, even if they are more "bratty" until you can convince them you aren't to be bitten, scratched, or chewed on. Kittens are tough!
Fortunately Sarge caught on pretty quickly and was a big but gentle kitten for his age.  I love this video I caught of what he did when he had no one to play with.  He loves the polar fleece fabric I use in his playpen, and sometimes it was something he liked to chew on!  Does Sarge have an invisible friend?

Sarge:  What do you want???

Sarge is 5 weeks old, and getting more handsome everyday.  At this age, my foster kittens tend to stare at me...lots!  Not sure if he is trying to figure out why his mom looks like me, or to dominate my world, but it is a cute thing almost every kitten does.  You will notice he still has his beautiful blue eyes, which usually will turn to their permanent color around 6-7 weeks old.  Coming soon!

In this photo, Sarge is the sweetest foster kitten anyone could ask for.  He plays hard, and then he sleeps deeply and looks so angelic.  This is one of the rewards for fostering these babies!

Sarge update: 2-1/2 weeks old

My little tiny foster kitten, Sarge, is 2-1/2 weeks old & growing like a weed.  So cute at this age! Here he is being fed from a small bottle with kitten formula.  That is his entire world until he is weaned, and how we can successfully raise underage kittens without a mother.

Sarge mastering walking, kinda!

Little Sarge is learning the ropes on walking.  At this young age of 2 weeks old, his legs are wobbly and he meows about everything new.  Since he still drags his belly, it might technically be crawling, but we will give him the credit anyway. It is very cute to watch him slowly figure things out.

Once again, my 5 pound dog, Button, is watching over a foster kitten.  2 week old Sarge is getting his morning exercise & wobbling all over the bed.
PS - Yes, Button has a ridge or mohawk on the back of her head...she is a former foster of mine & was born with an odd combination of cute traits!

Sarge:  A new foster kitten for me to raise

3/10/2018

Sarge is only 1-2 days old here, and obviously very tiny.  He is a "Singleton" which means he has no siblings.  Fostering a singleton can be harder since they learn from each other, especially how to play nice rather than biting and scratching.  The job then goes to the foster mom, me, to teach him those things.  For right now, my job is to feed and nurture him so he thrives!
